Mobile Milling
Recently had trees taken down, or plan to have trees taken down, that you would like to turn into useable lumber? I have a mobile sawmill service available to mill your logs into valuable lumber at your location. I use a Wood-Mizer portable bandsaw mill, which can cut up to 16’ in length and 22” in diameter. It is able to square up a 30” log.
What to Expect
The following diagram is a good general layout for milling and depicts the space required for such a job - I need to be able to pull the mill up alongside the logs for loading purposes - ample space is needed to fit both the truck and the mill.
If possible, when the tree company cuts down your logs, please ask them to trim the branch stubs flush with the log. If the trees are already down and there are still branches, I can remove them for you, but will increase the time for the job.
As the slabs are coming off the mill, I will need a space to stack the new lumber. My service includes flat stacking the lumber (stack the lumber without preparing it for air drying), which speeds up the milling process.
If you wish to clean the sawdust off your boards and sticker-stack them to properly air dry (diagram below for details) as they come off the mill, we can provide this additional service. If interested in this drying process, we need to be sure you have the proper materials, mainly stickers for spacing the wood. These are the spacers used between layers of boards in a stack to allow air flow during drying. They can be cut from pine or even plywood and are ideally 1”x2”x12”. If you do not have stickers, please let us know and we can provide them for an additional cost.
Upon completion of the job, you will have a pile of scrap wood (ideal for wood burning), a pile of sawdust, and a pile of milled slabs.
